Change motivated by love
Many times over the last 10 years I have told a story about Tony Campolo throwing a birthday party for Agnes, a prostitute. This story has always been a true motivator for me to look for opportunities to show Jesus-like love to people who feel outside the bounds of God’s love. I feel strongly that God loves every being on this earth regardless of their life choices — He is a God full of love to give. One of the couples who listened as I spoke in this direction at my previous church felt the call to move to Seattle and manage a motel in a difficult area. Frequently their motel is home to prostitutes, drug users, and people who are down and out. Aaron and Alice are committed to loving these people. By the way, I love that! I received this email from Aaron today that illustrates the love Jesus has for the world.
“Bri***** is a prostitute. She admits the flaws that led her into this lifestyle and most of it revolves around a lack of true family connection. While registering for a room, she was setting up a new appointment, “Yeah, for 2 hours? That’s $200.00″ she said and followed up with, “uh, ok, I can do that for $150.00.” I gave her the key and sternly warned her about “please don’t even bring it here.” This is a “safe place, it is a home, we want you to feel safe living here.” She responded oddly by saying, “I think you understand!” Over the next 2 days Alice and I reminded her that she is safe here; and then she said her boyfriend is very violent and “One of these days, I’d like to get out of this.” Today she ran in and said “Aaron, Alice, I am getting out of all of this Friday!” The boyfriend that she’s leaving is so violent that she is willing to loose all her belongings at his place so that she does not have to chance starting again.
We are having a party here Friday at 7pm for her.”

Bri….. has been amazed by the outpouring of kind words of encouragement given to her by God’s people. She said “It is so surreal, I don’t know how to explain it!” She sends her tearful thanks for something that she admits no one have ever given her before - KINDNESS!
Every note is a beam of warmth that will draw her to the Light of Christ. God bless you for praying for her. - Aaron & Alice motel managers for Christ
